We are always on the lookout for volunteers - whether it be an extra pair of eyes on poolside, collecting spectator fees, helping to run the club desk, raising our profile, or organising social events.  We cannot do everything on our own, and would appreciate it if you could assist with one of the jobs mentioned.

Diving Section

Our diving section started up in 2003, when our diving teachers completed their Level 1 qualifications, and has grown in popularity.  Last year, we successfully won an 'Aqua-Start' grant - which consisted of a brand new 1m springboard (that we donated to the pool) and new equipment.  Now that we have the equipment, we have expanded the Diving Section and now offer the following sessions (all at Grimsby Swimming Pool):

Wednesday

8pm-

8:45pm

Diving lessons

Friday

5:15pm-6:15pm

Exclusive use of the diving bay for members of the diving group to practice their dives.  Also open to members of the swimming section wishing to try the discipline.  Cost is presently £1.50 per session - see Val for more details.

Saturday

10:15am-11:15am

Shared session with the public for extra lesson and to practice dives.

Sunday

11:15am-12:15am

Flip 'n' Fun - Games and activities in the exercise room (upstairs) to develop stamina, balance, agility, co-ordination etc.  Also open to members of the swimming section and presently costs 50p per session.  See Val for more details.

Every 5 weeks, we also hire out the diving bay at Yarborough Leisure Centre in Lincoln for two hours.  These sessions allow extended tuition on the 1m and 3m springboards, as well as extra training on the poolside.  The dates for the sessions this year are as follows:

6th Jan;  10th Feb;  16th Mar;  20th Apr;  25th May;  29th Jun;  20th July;  7th Sept;  12th Oct;  16th Nov

The sessions are led by our 4 Level 2 (fully qualified) Diving teachers (Val, Helen, Amanda & Jane), assisted by Lee, who has recently achieved his Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Diving.  We teach from beginner level and we are now able to take up to 36 divers of all ages. Our sessions aren't just for children and young people; adults are very welcome to join us.

Correct techniques are taught in fully structured lessons - no "flinging yourself off the board" allowed!  Shallow water and poolside techniques are taught and practised, including glides, jumps and rolls and correct stance before moving to the boards.  The basic skills and techniques must be constantly practised to ensure correct progressions.

Important elements of every dive are: STANCE, TAKE-OFF, FLIGHT and ENTRY - all of these elements will be worked on each week, although individuals may concentrate on particular aspects.  All divers are usually allowed 'a go on the boards' at the end of the session, if they have completed their lesson.

To join you must be able to swim and be confident in and under deep water; and be willing to try new things.

We have places available for people of all ages.  If you are interested in joining, or you would like to apply for a place for your child, please send us a Membership Application, or alternatively, you can call Helen Wright (Secretary) on 01472 351014 or Val Rowell (Chair) on 01472 313792.
